Dog Clothing Size Guide for Italian Greyhounds & Whippets

Record three measurements before choosing a garment: chest, back and neck. Keep the units with your notes, then use the size chart on the exact product page. SnugHugs styles use their own size ranges; a shared S, M or L label does not mean identical dimensions.

Take chest, back and neck measurements

  1. Start standing naturally

Use a flexible tape while your dog stands with a relaxed posture. Avoid pulling the tape tight, and repeat a measurement if your dog moves.

  2. Measure the fullest chest

Wrap the tape around the widest part of the ribcage, just behind the front legs. Keep the tape level and record the circumference.

  3. Measure the back

Measure from the base of the neck to the base of the tail along the back. Do not include the tail itself.

  4. Measure around the neck

Record the circumference at the base of the neck where the garment will sit. Clothing neck fit and collar fit have different product guidance.

  5. Write down the units

Keep all three numbers together in centimetres or inches. If converting, 1 inch equals 2.54 cm; avoid mixing units in a single comparison.

  6. Compare the exact product chart

Open the garment’s product page and check its Size Guide and fit notes against all three measurements. Confirm whether the displayed dimensions describe the dog or the garment before using any allowance.

Where to place the tape

This illustration shows measuring positions. Use it with the instructions above, then compare the separate size chart for the garment you want. It is not a universal size chart.

Between two sizes: follow that product’s rule

Stay Cool’s current fit notes recommend sizing up between sizes. Lace Air and the Reversible Insulated Vest recommend sizing down. These recommendations belong to those individual products.

For the other garments, the catalogue directs you to the individual chart. If chest, back and neck do not point to a clear fit, send the measurements and style name before ordering rather than applying a rule from another garment.

Charts for sighthound and four-leg styles

Charts for vests and the polo shirt

These are sizing references across the clothing range. Each product’s actual size range determines fit; not every style is described as a dedicated sighthound cut.

Measure for the garment you will actually wear

If you plan to layer, check the combined fit when the garments are worn together. Pay attention to the chest, shoulders and leg openings, and check natural walking and turning.

Do not add one fixed number of centimetres to every chart. Stretch, cut and whether a chart gives body or garment dimensions affect how you interpret the measurements. An adjustable jacket can be refined after choosing a suitable size, but adjustment is not a substitute for reading the chart.

Questions before you choose

Can I choose by weight alone?

Use chest, back and neck measurements with the selected product’s chart. Dogs with similar weights can have different proportions, especially around a deep chest or long back.

Can I reuse the size from another SnugHugs garment?

Check again. The products have separate charts, shapes and stretch levels. A size label alone does not establish the same fit across styles.

What if my measurements fall across different sizes?

Send all three measurements, the units and the garment name to us. Do not automatically choose the largest or smallest label when the chart does not show a clear match.

Is an Italian Greyhound size automatically a Whippet size?

No. Compare your own dog’s measurements with the exact product range. The shared breed collection helps you browse styles, but it does not make every size suitable for every dog.

Is neck measurement enough for clothing?

No. Clothing needs chest and back measurements as well as neck fit. For a separate collar, follow that collar’s neck range and adjustment guidance.
